Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on Maine's budget woes and the need to cut $100 million in spending over the next 18 months. Businesses are worried about how the state might decide to balance the budget, feeling they are an "easy" target for new taxes and fees. An advocacy group, the Alliance for Maine's Future, was successful last spring in opposing a measure that would have taxed new services in order to lower other taxes.
