Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on Governor John Baldacci's plans to bridge a $38 million short-term budget gap. Among Baldacci's restructuring proposals are plans to take over the county jails and merge the state's natural resource agencies. The restructuring proposals have already proven very controversial. The state is facing at least a $95 million revenue shortfall over the remainder of the two-year state budget.
