Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece reporting that Maine businesses are not likely to get the full benefit of the federal stimulus package passed by the U.S. House of Representatives because of the cost to the state of related tax changes aimed at boosting business investment. Baldacci said Maine companies will eventually benefit from the federal change in depreciation, but over a period of time. David Clough, executive director of the National Federation of Independent Businesses Maine, said this will put small Maine companies at a competitive disadvantage with peers in other states.
