Abstract

"Focus: Technology" piece on Maine's aquaculture industry, with a focus on innovative changes in methods and techniques that have contributed to turn around the ailing industry in Maine. Sebastian Belle, executive director of the Maine Aquaculture Association, says a "huge slowdown" in the state's aquaculture industry forced fish farmers to rethink their techniques. The decline was a result of real and perceived problems associated with negative environmental impacts. With comments by Bill Keleher, CEO of Micro Technologies Inc.; John Whalen, co-owner of Harmon Brook Farm; William Thomas, chief operations officer at MariCal; and Steve Page, founder of Ocean Farm Technologies.
