Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece with a profile of Peggy Kovensky, who founded New England Couture Cakes in 2006. After working out of her kitchen, Kovensky is moving into a storefront on Broadway in South Portland. She hopes the move will allow her to double to 120 the number of cakes she can make each year. Her company's cake prices range from $500 to $4,000 and have been featured in national magazines. Kovensky hopes daily sales of smaller items from the store will help stabilize the revenue stream and balance the May-to-November wedding season.
