Abstract

"Business Maine: Southern" piece reporting that Toronto-based TD Bank Financial Group has completed an $8.5 billion deal to acquire Commerce Bancorp, based in Cherry Hill, N.J. TD Banknorth said it would change its name to TD Commerce Bank to reflect the new company. But just days after the announcement, a Massachusetts bank sued TD Bank Financial Group to keep the bank from changing its name. Worcester-based Commerce Bank & Trust says the similar names already have confused some customers.
