Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece reporting that the economic downturn means thousands of Mainers are having cars, trucks, snowmobiles, motorcycles and lobster boats repossessed. This is in addition to mortgage foreclosures. The only statistics available are for the institutions regulated by the Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection. Aaron Adams, vice president of Acadia Recovery Company of Carmel, said his firm repossessed roughly 2,000 vehicles and other pieces of property. Adams said his business is down right now because of income tax refunds and the federal government stimulus checks that are temporarily keeping people financially afloat.
