Abstract

"Charting the Course" piece on a recent GrowSmart analysis of census data confirming that new housing construction in Maine is gravitating from suburbs to the towns and cities, where more jobs and services are based. Factors driving the shift include an aging population, the transformation of urban downtowns and Main streets, a diminishing disparity in property tax rates, and increased transportation costs.
