Abstract

Despite losing out on funding from the Federal Rail Administration to extend the Downeaster to Brunswick, the New England Passenger Rail Authority will apply for federal stimulus money for the stretch of track, which is one of 10 nationally eligible for such funding. The Maine Street Station project in Brunswick hinges on the extension, which the state supports, though partial funding for Downeaster operating costs were not included in the most recent biennial budget.
