Abstract

A study by the American Enterprise Institute ranked Maine 11th worst in the nation for its debt as a share of state gross domestic product. An area of particular concern is Maine's unfunded pension obligations. However, a study conducted by the Pew Center gave Maine's pension funds their highest rating. With details on contradictory opinions on Maine's financial health and a preview of the bond issues that will appear on the June ballot.
