Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece with a profile of Paul Violette, who has been executive director of the Maine Turnpike Authority since 1988. Toll revenues, 55 percent of which come from out-of-state travelers, fund most of the authority's $105-million budget to maintain the roadway. The bulk of that revenue, 40 percent, is collected at the York toll plaza. The authority receives no state or federal funding, and its bond rating puts it among the top six authorities in the country.
