Abstract

"Capitolism." Response to a recent "Money" magazine article calling Maine's tax burden the fifth-highest in the country. University of Maine economics professor Ralph Townsend argues that the study, based on the $88,764 average family income of a "Money" magazine-reading family, is meaningles in Maine, and also fails to take into account business taxes, fees, and assessments common in supposedly lower-tax states.
