Abstract

"Business Maine" piece on Central Maine Healthcare, the parent organization of Central Maine Medical Center, which is laying off 35 workers and cutting administrators' pay by 8 percent. CMH wants to cut $11 million from its budget because of lower patient volume, more patients not paying bills, and $56 million the state owes it in MaineCare payments. CMH has eliminated raises and reduced vacation time for its 3,200 employees, and the latest cuts also reduce work hours and employee benefits.
