Abstract

The 2011 cruise ship season is expected to bring 262,667 passengers to Maine, a loss of about 6,200 passengers compared to 2010 numbers. While Bar Harbor expects to see fewer passengers, Portland will see the benefits of its new megaberth and is expecting an increase of 5,140 visitors. New federal fuel emissions standards going into effect starting in 2012 may negatively impact the cruise ship industry.
