Abstract

A look at what Maine's December 7.3% unemployment rate truly means through interviews with three people who represent different categories within Maine's workforce: long-term unemployed, recently hired and underemployed. The unemployment rate does not include "discouraged" workers (those who sought work during the past year but have stopped looking) or "underemployed" workers (those who work fewer hours than desired while trying to find a full-time position).
