Abstract

A Maine-backed proposal to create a National Seafood Marketing Coalition, funded through an allocation from existing duties on imported seafood, could help Maine's seafood industry promote itself to national and international markets and unify the different industry sectors. The national coalition plans to create five regions, each run by their own regional board. One proposed region would group New England together with the Great Lakes area. Challenges include coordination and getting Congress to agree to allocate $100 million annually to the coalition
