Abstract

"Focus Travel & Tourism" piece on efforts to attract more "cultural tourists" to Maine. Recent studies have demonstrated that tourists who engage in cultural activities during their visit, such as attending plays, museums, and musical events, stay longer and spend more money than other tourists. A new program called MainePerforms, recently created by the Maine Office of Tourism, aims to highlight performing arts events in the state. Some business owners are also partnering with arts organizations to cross-promote one another and capture the attention of cultural tourists.
