Abstract

"Public Engagement" piece by Joel Allumbaugh, director of the Center for Health Reform Initiatives at the Maine Heritage Policy Center. He discusses the benefits of LD 1333, the health insurance reforms signed into law in May. LD 1333 will improve Maine's individual insurance market through reduced premiums and includes changes that will give businesses the opportunity to offer more affordable insurance without HMO deductible limits and offer incentives to employees who see designated physicians. Other provisions of the bill create wellness credits for small businesses and permit certain groups and associations to offer health insurance.
