Abstract
"Capitol Update" piece on proposed legislation in Congress that would make retailers collect sales tax on products sold online. Senator Olympia Snowe thinks that adding a new tax during a difficult economy would be detrimental but Representative Chellie Pingree supports the legislation because it evens the competition for small business owners who do collect sales taxes. Representative Mike Michaud said he needs to review the bill carefully before making a decision and Senator Susan Collins believes it is an issue better addressed by state governments.
