Abstract

"Focus Banking & Finance" piece on programs, launched by companies such as Sam's Club, Office Depot, and Starbucks, aimed at helping small businesses gain access to financing that can also encourage these small businesses to spend more. Sam's Club, and more recently, Office Depot have been promoting Superior Financial Group's small business loans of up to $25,000 that are backed by the Small Business Administration. So far Maine businesses have received $40,000 in loans through the Sam's Club program. And Starbucks "Create Jobs for USA" program generates funds through customer donations plus their own $5 million contribution to donate to the Opportunity Finance Network. In Maine, Coastal Enterprises Inc., will receive $173,500 raised through Starbucks' program.
