Abstract

Maine's congressional delegation is pessimistic that the federal budget deficit can be reduced within the environment of a highly partisan election year. Republicans are advocating for a spending cap for the next budget year but Democrats are upset about the unfocused, across-the-board cuts due to go into effect after the super committee's failure.
