Abstract

Although the 19 industrial-scale wind projects that are in operation or are planned in Maine have brought more than $1 billion in investments, wind power development also faces significant challenges from lower natural gas costs, the upcoming elimination of federal tax credits, and fluctuating political support. The federal tax credit is set to expire at the end of 2012 and efforts to renew it have been unsuccessful. Gov. LePage has said that wind and solar energy "are not viable and plentiful sources of cost-effective energy today." With map showing wind power locations in Maine and statistics about each project.
