Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on Maine Labor Commissioner Robert Winglass's view that unemployment fraud is much more prevalent than we think and that a law recently signed by Gov. LePage will help the Department of Labor prosecute cases where workers or employers are trying to defraud the unemployment insurance system. But the executive director of the Maine AFL-CIO said that Maine ranks fifth lowest in the nation for UI fraud and that focusing on UI fraud diverts funds and energy away from new job creation.
