Abstract

Discussion of potential impact of a 2.3 percent tax on medical devices not sold directly to consumers. The tax, a provision of the Affordable Care Act, will go into effect on January 1 and has manufacturing companies worried about the potential loss of revenue, higher costs being passed on to consumers, and companies' abilities to invest in R&D.
