Abstract

Kevin Mattson, principal of Mattson Development, has plans to redevelop the 115-year old MaineGeneral hospital in Augusta. He intends to focus on state leases, a move that could save the state money. Mattson anticipates that he could provide space for 30% less than it would cost the state to renovate the building on its own. Mattson's confidence stems from his experience with an earlier project: the old Digital Equipment Corp. plant which he turned into the Central Maine Commerce Center in North Augusta and which was fully leased to state and federal government tenants, along with a few private firms, within two years of opening.
