Abstract

"Focus: Health Care & Wellness" piece on employee wellness programs. They are generally considered to be a sound business practice, saving companies money on health care costs and reducing employee absenteeism and turnover. The Jackson Laboratory is one of the companies profiled that has invested in its employees' health. The company's efforts have paid off, as it has seen the number of individuals in the high-risk insurance pool decline by 83% and per-person medical expenses fall 10%. Norway Savings Bank and Duratherm Window Corp. have also seen improvements to their bottom line as employee health improves. Occupational Medical Consulting in Leeds consulted with both employers to help them implement wellness programs that are outcomes-based and that work to change employees' health behaviors.
