Abstract

“On the Record” piece features the edited transcript of an interview with Riley Poole, one of several Vinalhaven lobstermen trying to organize under the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union. Poole explains that he and eight others decided to try to unionize because of record low prices last summer which meant that lobstermen could not even cover the costs of fuel. Poole fears the loss of independent lobstermen and their way of life.
