The company, under the leadership of Tom Shafer and Steve Sanders, recovers logs from the bottom of Quakish Lake and turns them into high-end flooring. The men initially thought they would sell the salvaged wood for pulp to be used in paper-making, but when the East Millinocket pulp mill closed in 2011, they shifted gears dramatically, learning to process the wood for flooring and custom furniture.
