Abstract
“Focus: Wealth Management” piece on the rise of the wealth management business in Maine. According to a report from Phoenix Marketing International, in 2013, 4.69% of Maine households had $1 million or more to invest. Article looks briefly at possible reasons for the rise in the number of millionaires in the state and examines the trend to buy local, even in the wealth management sector. Banks such as Bangor Savings and TD Bank have expanded their wealth management services, while companies like Brian Bernatchez’s Golden Pond Wealth Management and H.M. Payson’s Institutional Management Group are benefitting from the return of wealth to Maine. These companies emphasize discretion and confidentiality.
