Abstract

“Focus Small Business” piece on Frosty’s Donuts, which has seen rapid growth in its three years under new ownership, that of Shelby and Nels Omdal. There are now four retail outlets, a growing wholesale business (including to 11 Hannaford supermarkets), and a workforce that is expected to reach 30 people by the summer. Article examines how the couple went after alternative funding, including loans from the Brunswick Development Corp., and explains how local economic development corporations work. Also discusses the change in direction that is being undertaken by BDC, which saw its funds dwindle due to a large number of funding requests.
