Abstract

“Focus Small Business” piece on Gardiner, Maine, and its efforts to revitalize its downtown. Thanks to a collaboration among the city, The Bank of Maine, Gardiner Main Street, and the Gardiner Board of Trade, there are now financial incentives to offer potential businesses who choose to locate in the downtown district. This collaboration, known as the Gardiner Growth Initiative, has been an effective tool for courting prospective businesses, including Frosty’s Doughnuts. The article examines the Bank of Maine’s role in the initiative as well as the specific details of the incentives.
