Abstract

Profiles of the 2014 Mainebiz “Women to Watch.” These include Ellen Belknap, president of SMRT Architects and Engineers in Portland, for her highly collaborative style of management in a field still dominated my men; Margo Walsh, founder of temporary industrial labor agency MaineWorks LLC of Windham, for her commitment to hiring workers that others typically won’t, such as veterans, immigrants, recovering drug and alcohol abusers; Amber Lambke, president of Maine Grains of Skowhegan, a company that stone grinds organic wheat and oats in a rehabbed former county jail building, for her vision to expand access to locally made food; Lauren Wayne, director of Portland’s State Theatre, for her work bringing large-scale concerts to the State Theatre, and booking acts for various smaller venues in the city as well; and Claudia Raessler, CEO of Maine Textiles International LLC/Saco River Dyehouse, the only organically certified dye house in the U.S., for her determination to bring a textile business back to Maine.
