Abstract

Piece about Bucksport’s Alamo Theatre and Northeast Historic Film, a nonprofit archive of film and video in Bucksport. Includes a brief history of NHF and of how its founders, David Weiss and Karan Sheldon, started the film repository and then purchased the Alamo. The theater, built in 1916, had ceased operations by 1956. The Alamo struggled financially, as most movie theaters have in recent years, and was especially hard hit by the studios’ switch from film prints to digital. Article describes how Weiss and Jane Donnell, the theater’s manager, rallied local support to raise funds for a digital projector.
