Abstract

“Focus: Transportation/Infrastructure” piece on Maine’s hydropower infrastructure and whether or not hydropower can play a role in relieving the high prices and energy shortages of last winter. A report on Maine’s dams, due out in January, is expected to reveal how much power the existing infrastructure can provide. Article also includes a brief discussion about individuals who have purchased dams. Nicholas Cabral and Nicholas Berner, students at Maine Maritime Academy, purchased Goose River Hydro’s Mason Dam and have got it running again, selling the power to Central Maine Power. Tony and Sally Grassi purchased and are reviving the Mill at Freedom Falls.
