Abstract

The price of electricity for Maine businesses will skyrocket this winter, due largely to the high cost of natural gas delivered to New England in winter months. Patrick Woodcock, director of the Governor’s Energy Office, received many phone calls from businesses concerned about the price increase. He provided some immediate steps that businesses could take to manage the situation. Woodcock also talked about long-term strategies the six New England states are pursuing, including investing in natural gas pipelines and importing Canadian hydropower. Efficiency Maine has also been fielding calls from concerned businesses.
