Abstract

Bar Harbor Biotechnology, Inc., a private spinoff from The Jackson Laboratory, makes genetic tests and software that enable researchers to study what genes are activated or inactivated in particular diseases. After a strong start in 2006, it hit some stumbling blocks. In July of 2014, it hired a new CEO, Janet Yancey-Wrona, who intends to build the company’s brand name and to focus on and grow its gene analysis tool business. While BHB is a small company in comparison to others in the market, it can be more responsive to client needs, in particular creating custom primer plates , or arrays as they are known in the industry. She also intends to grow the company’s product line.
