Abstract

Seafood was Maine’s leading export in 2014, with a total value of $456.67 million. Lobster accounts for $366 million of those exports and the export value increased 45.4% between 2013 and 2014 among 25 countries. There has been a significant growth and demand from Asia. Tom Adams, founder, owner and CEO of Maine Coast Shellfish LLC, started his business focusing on international markets. His business had $40 million in sales in 2014. A text box includes “SBA Loan Program for Exporters” which includes information for businesses to get into exporting. It is provided by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Maine district office.
