Abstract

Health care costs at Bath Iron Works is the single-most-expensive overhead cost and can impact its ability to win contracts against other shipbuilders who have lower costs. BIW is working with Maine Health Management Coalition and others to improve the quality and cost of health care for its workers. Three case studies identifying a healthcare problem, a solution, and the benefits are detailed. The case studies are presented from the perspective of the employer, Bath Iron Works; the provider, MaineHealth; and another from the insurer, Community Health Options. [image]
