Abstract

The roll out for EMV chip (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) technology on debit and credit cards has been uneven. Not all retailers have the appropriate machines to read the chips and not all consumers are familiar with how to use them. It is expected that by 2017, 90% of retailers will have adopted the new technology, which promises enhanced security for transactions.
