The Portland-based advertising business VIA Agency, has employed an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) as a way to attract and retain talented individuals, as well as staving off larger out-of-state agencies from absorbing the business. Some of the details of how the decision was made are presented, and other ways in which the business has encouraged employee creativity, which in turn benefits the company. [images]
