Abstract

The Public Utilities Commission has set a deadline for bids to access $13.4M, set aside in a rainy day fund, which will pay for above-market electricity created by biomass generators. The measure is designed to help Maine's struggling logging industry. However, there is only one biomass company in Maine still in operation, and it is questioned if the bidding process is truly competitive.
