Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on gay politics in Maine. After a flurry of activity over the past few years, gay and lesbian advocacy groups have not been as visible on the political front in the past year. The one big victory in 2002 was the vote to deny a repeal of Westbrook's civil-rights ordinance. Reorganization and budget problems are affecting groups like Maine SpeakOut Project and Outright, and, as a whole, gay activist groups are losing their steam. Includes profiles of Scott Robbe, former executive director of Maine SpeakOut Project, and Maggie Allen, executive director of the Maine Lesbian and Gay Political Alliance.
