Abstract

"theater" piece on reactions from the Maine theater world to the war in Iraq. While some agree that they want to provide lighter shows to help the audience "escape," other groups are bringing the reality of war to the stage. Two Lights Theatre Ensemble has submitted "La Promise" to the New York International Fringe Festival. The play, which explores the role of non-violence in wartime, was performed in September 2002. Frank Wicks has created a "readers' theater" piece entitled "Soldier, Come Home!," based on the Civil War letters of his great-grandfather.
