Abstract

"Politics and Other Mistakes" piece on the recently published "A Citizen's Guide to the 121st Maine Legislature," a biennial project of the Maine People's Resource Center. The guide contains profiles of all 186 members of the state House and Senate, as well as the governor, the constitutional officers, and Indian representatives. It details results of past elections, amounts spent on campaigns, ratings from special interests and occasional quotes. The Maine People's Resource Alliance is an affiliate of the Maine People's Alliance, a liberal advocacy group that specializes in environmental and health-care issues. The author notes that the guide is full of questions on health care and the environment, but soft on other tough issues that might offend legislators the alliance hopes to influence.
