Abstract

Article on the Republican Party in Maine, featuring interviews with Republican commentators and two Democratic observers Those interviewed are : Christian Potholm, Republican pollster, author, and Bowdoin College government professor; Douglas Hodgkins, Republican activist and emeritus Bates college professor of political science; Peter Mills, Republican state representative, former state senator, and tax and appropriations expert; Joseph Bruno, House minority leader and businessman; Peter Cianchette, former Republican gubernatorial nominee and now head of the Bush-Cheney '04 re-election campaign; and Bill Becker, director of the Maine Heritage Policy Center, a conservative think tank in Portland. The two Democratic commentators are: Douglas Rooks, former "Maine Times" editor and aide to Patrick Colwell, Democratic Speaker of the House; and Lee Umphrey, Gov. John Baldacci's communications director.
