Abstract

Article on a study due to be released this summer by the Maine Agriculture Center (MAC) on the feasibility of growing industrial hemp in the state, noting that MAC researchers are fairly confident that hemp can be profitably grown here. But opposition by state and federal law enforcement to hemp in all its forms threatens development of a hemp industry. With a history of hemp-growing and details on the market for hemp products. Featuring comments by Stephen Reiling, MAC director; Roy McKinney, director of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency; Rep. Thomas Bull, D-Freeport; and Craig Urquhart, manager at Morning Glory Natural Foods in Bath, which sells hemp products.
