Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on the Portland-based rock band Rustic Overtones, which has recently released a new compact disc and has signed on with Arista, a major record-industry label that promises a strong international promotional campaign. The multimillion dollar deal includes promotion, production, touring and distribution costs over the course of seven albums, but manager Bill Beasley says the advance against future earnings was less than six figures.
