Abstract

Article on AIDS in Maine, with a focus on the latest treatment options. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) last month recommended that anyone that may have been exposed to HIV should begin a one-month regimen of the so-called HIV drug cocktail that can be as much as 80 percent effective in knocking the virus out of your system. Sandy Putnam of the AIDS Consultation Program at Maine Medical Center says that demand for the treatment is up since the CDC announcement. Noel Bonam, manager for the Health and Human Services Department of the city of Portland, believes that even more people should be accessing the treatment.
