Abstract

Lengthy, detailed article on the 2004 indictment of four Green Independent party workers in Biddeford for absentee-ballot fraud, suggesting that the prosecutions were politically motivated. Steven Rowe, Democratic attorney general, sought the indictments just weeks before the general election. Many Green party members question the timing of the prosecutions, and whether the attorney general held the Greens to an unusual standard. Three of the four cases have resulted in acquittal on the major charges, and the remaining case will likely never go to trial. With comments on Green party workers Fred Dolgon, Philip Castora, Ben Chipman, and Wayne Whitten.
