Abstract

"This Just In" piece on the beleaguered Portland Arts and Cultural Alliance (PACA), which hopes to revive itself with $25,000 in grant money and two large-scale surveys. The Discovery Research Project is part of a statewide cultural initiative sponsored in part by the nonprofit Maine Arts Commission. PACA will compile an internet directory of artists and arts organizations in Portland. The Americans for the Arts survey, which will be conducted concurrently, will study the economic impact of the Portland arts community on the city. With comments by Jessica Tomlinson, PACA vice president; and Rose Marasco, photographer and art professor at the University of Southern Maine.
